The new website and promotional videos debuted in January and here we are in June already. It's been an exciting six months and it's high time for an update on what we've been up to in that time.
We've been keeping track of members and pledges very carefully but as we all know, pledges don't always come through in the end. Because of this, we have to think of our progress in somewhat general terms until the first payments are actually collected. Similarly, the land budget is also just an estimate so that makes the progress even fuzzier to gauge. We're roughly halfway to the point where we can bust out a shovel though. We have about thirty people on board and would like to see twice that before proceeding. After discussing it with members in the facebook discussion group, we learned that a design composed of multiple buildings in a cluster would be preferred to a single giant structure so Luke has developed a modified 3D model to reflect that. As an added benefit, it'll be much easier to build in stages, one building at a time.
We've been sourcing local contractors and material suppliers in an effort to lower costs and increase construction convenience. All such details are being worked out now. There's a very wide spectrum of quality in Chile when it comes to building materials and it pays to be extra careful in the planning stages to avoid complications later.
In the marketing department, press releases are about to go out in an effort to draw more eyes from those in certain start-up development circles. Chile has been doing a great job of attracting talent to the country for training and funding but we see a critical gap at the end of the pipeline when it comes to support and accommodations for graduates of their programs. We hope that budding entrepreneurs who come and attend programs like Start-up Chile and Exosphere will consider staying in the country afterwards to develop their businesses at Fort Galt. Also, If you haven't noticed already, we introduced a Membership Referral Program that provides a way for members to earn discounts by recruiting new members.
We were very happy to host a few visiting members that came down to see Valdivia for themselves and we look forward to seeing even more of you in time. Here's to the rest of this already awesome year!
